About Hawaii Surrogacy

Hawaii Surrogacy, formally Hawaii Surrogacy Center LLC, is a for-profit, full-service surrogacy agency based in the Kaka'ako area of Honolulu. It works with intended parents and gestational carriers across Hawaii, and the agency describes itself as the only locally founded, locally based agency in the state dedicated exclusively to gestational surrogacy. Its Better Business Bureau file lists Breyonna Cadina as the business's principal and customer contact.

The program is structured as a single point of coordination from screening through birth. According to the agency, that includes screening and matching of surrogates with intended parents, coordination of the legal work, and support through the pregnancy and delivery. Escrow is handled through SeedTrust, a third-party escrow provider. The agency does not run an egg donor program. Its team is small, with roughly five named staff members including a founder-director and coordinators or case managers, one of them based on Maui.

Intended parents served include LGBTQ+ couples, single parents, and clients living outside the United States. Surrogate requirements, including age, BMI, and prior pregnancy and cesarean history, are published and appear in the table below, as do compensation ranges and the agency's published fee information. Its Yelp listing notes that the business is women-owned, accepts credit cards, and offers a military discount.

In public reviews, several intended parents describe close, responsive communication with named staff members and say they were guided through the matching process and the journey that followed. A surrogate testimonial published on the agency's own website describes supportive staff throughout the process.

Very Disappointing Experience As intended parents, our experience with this agency has been extremely disappointing. We paid for professional guidance, communication, and support throughout our surrogacy journey, and unfortunately, we have not felt that we received the level of service we expected. Communication has been a major issue. We have had time-sensitive concerns take more than two weeks to receive a response. When we have raised concerns, we have frequently felt dismissed or brushed off rather than supported. We have also had serious concerns regarding how situations involving our pregnancy have been handled. On one occasion, our gestational carrier did not follow doctor-mandated orders regarding bedrest. When she asked the agency whether she had done anything wrong, we were extremely concerned to learn that she was told she had not, because the agency did not want to cause her additional stress. We had to push the agency to address the situation more honestly. As intended parents, we found this extremely upsetting. We are currently dealing with another situation involving concerns about our baby’s well-being, and unfortunately, we again do not feel adequately supported or represented by our agency. Rather than ensure that our baby is born in a local hospital with a NICU to accommodate his complex medical needs, they would rather our surrogate feel comfortable in the hospital of her choice that does not have a specialized medical team in place or a NICU. I’m now having to make phone calls myself to medical professionals in order to get a written opinion in order for this simple change to happen. The agency is not taking this seriously and stated that if he needs medical care, he can be transferred to another hospital after his birth. In this case, he could die. They’re willing to jeopardize my son’s life for the “comfort” of our surrogate. We respect the medical autonomy of our gestational carrier. However, we also believe intended parents deserve an agency that will listen to their concerns, communicate promptly, and provide meaningful support when difficult situations arise. We also experienced significant concerns with a fertility clinic recommended by the agency, including repeated billing errors, concerns about medical decisions, and concerns regarding the relationship between the agency and the recommended clinic. These experiences further reduced our confidence in the guidance we were receiving. (Please see my review for In-Vitro Pacific in Oahu, Hawaii for more details.) To prospective intended parents: please remember that you are paying for a service. Ask very detailed questions about communication expectations, how the agency handles disagreements, how it supports intended parents when concerns arise, and whether agency staff have relationships with recommended providers. This has been one of the most important and vulnerable experiences of our lives. We expected our agency to provide communication, transparency, advocacy, and support, and we do not feel that our experience met that standard. Based on our experience, we would not choose this agency again and cannot recommend it to other intended parents.

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about my experience as a gestational carrier! Hawai’i surrogacy agency clearly laid out everything I needed to do and the process required very little brainpower from me- I just did what they asked me to do and everything went extremely smoothly. Very grateful for their attention to detail and quick responses!

Our experience working with Hawaii Surrogacy was exceptionally perfect. Andrea and Kendra helped us find the most friendly and caring GC, while patiently answered all our questions, and guided us throughout the entire journey. They were always by our side, ensuring that our worries were timely addressed We are extremely grateful for their assistance, which prevented us from feeling lonely on the surrogacy journey and ensured prompt assistance when our baby Lucas was born prematurely. Our first son Lucas also wants to express special gratitude to them for their diligent assistance during this period, which enabled him to grow up healthy and happy We highly recommend Hawaii Surrogacy to other parents considering surrogacy in the future!
