Surrogacy International, Inc., which also operates as Surrogacy International, is a for-profit surrogacy agency working in California. The corporation dates to about 2013, and the agency announced its public launch in December 2013, describing itself at the time as the first surrogacy agency on California's Central Coast. Its official site currently lists an office in Los Olivos, and the same content is also published at a second web address, surrintl.com.
The agency was founded and is led by Dawn Galbo, a licensed marriage and family therapist with a master's degree in counseling psychology who also runs a private psychotherapy practice in San Diego. The site credits attorney Robert Walmsley as co-founder, describing him as involved in two influential California surrogacy appellate cases, and the agency says its founder brings more than 30 years of experience in assisted reproduction.
Surrogacy International offers a full-service program with a legal component. It matches intended parents with gestational surrogates and screens prospective surrogates through a staff interview, psychological screening, a review of medical records, and federal and state background checks. For the legal and parentage paperwork, the agency refers clients to an attorney if they do not already have one.
In practice it is a small, owner-operated organization rather than a large national program, with a modest social media presence. Eligibility requirements, fees and surrogate compensation, where reported, appear in the sections below.
