About My Surrogacy Journey

My Surrogacy Journey is a full-service surrogacy organisation registered in England as My Surrogacy Journey Ltd (Companies House number 12591701), a private company limited by guarantee without share capital. Its status is listed as active, and the guarantee structure means it operates on a not-for-profit basis rather than issuing shares to owners. Ownership has remained unchanged.

According to the agency, it was created by its founders following their own lived experience of surrogacy, and it aims to provide a safe, supportive environment for surrogates, egg donors, intended parents and families. It describes offering support across three settings: the United Kingdom, the United States and Mexico, with an in-house team in Mexico City handling that pathway. Its United States presence is made up of remote member-experience and intake staff rather than a published office. The team is small, at roughly ten people.

The programme covers the arc of a surrogacy journey, from intake and matching through ongoing support, and an egg donation programme is offered alongside it. The agency works with intended parents who are LGBTQ+ and with intended parents based outside the country where their journey takes place, and it accepts surrogates internationally. For the Mexico City pathway, surrogates are required to live in Mexico City or the State of Mexico; that requirement, along with screening criteria such as its no-smoking policy and limits on prior C-sections, appears in the eligibility details further down this page.

Fees are not published; the agency provides costs by quote. My Surrogacy Journey is listed as a provider in the Men Having Babies Surrogacy Advisor directory. The agency also promotes a podcast, which it says is sponsored by a fertility centre.

Disappointing experience with My Surrogacy Journey Unfortunately, our experience with My Surrogacy Journey has been very disappointing. We have had ongoing concerns regarding communication, transparency and the information provided to us. We have also experienced significant problems with the insurance policy MSJ advised us to purchase for our surrogate and baby. The policy has not paid out for hospital fees, leaving us with over £15,000 of unexpected debt. Despite repeatedly raising this with MSJ, they have failed to clearly explain what has gone wrong, why the policy has not provided the expected cover, or how they intend to resolve the situation. Despite our ongoing concerns and repeated attempts to seek answers, Wes and Michael (CEOs at MSJ) have also failed to speak with us personally. For a company that pride themselves in setting the standard for surrogacy, I would expect more. For such an important and life-changing process, we expected a much higher level of communication, transparency and accountability. We would strongly encourage other intended parents to read all contracts and insurance documentation extremely carefully and seek independent legal and financial advice before signing or making payments. We are aware that our concerns are not an isolated issue and there are many other IPs in the same boat.

We had the most amazing consultation with Michael. One of the things that meant the most to us was how real and personal our conversation felt. At no point did it feel like it was about the financial side of things; instead, it felt like you truly understood what this journey means to people like us. Your compassion and understanding, especially when I became upset, meant more than I can put into words. I cannot wait to start our journey with you!

MSJ helped turn our dreams into reality. From start to finish, our journey unfolded with a sense of calm, care, and momentum that felt as smooth and swift as one could reasonably hope for. We are deeply grateful we chose the Mexico pathway; we don’t believe we could have found the same balance of speed and quality anywhere else. No journey like this is ever perfectly linear, and there were moments when the road felt uncertain. But in those harder moments, MSJ showed up steadily, compassionately, and with solutions. They made sure every issue was addressed and every concern heard. That, to us, is the true measure of any team working in the surrogacy world. We are especially grateful to Carly and Debbie for the meticulous care and attention they gave us. 🙏

I wasn't going to write a review of our experience with MSJ in early 2025 as it was so distressing, but I couldn't leave it as I know there will be other people out there for whom surrogacy abroad is their last resort. Perhaps others have chosen just to move on as at the time of writing there are only 8 other reviews. We too have moved on and found what, so far at least, seems to be a far better organised agency. I will not mention the company name as this is not an advert for them, it is a recount of our experience with MSJ. Our meeting with Wes Johnson-Ellis was arranged quickly and he was friendly. In the meeting we told him we were both 49 and had a couple of health conditions. Nothing seemed to be a problem - there were solutions for everything and we soon found ourselves concentrating on post-birth events - leaving Mexico, which neighbourhoods were like Shoreditch and borrowing baby equipment. This of course builds excitement and a sense that this could really be possible, with hindsight we had glossed over all the hurdles that exist with this process no matter which agency you use. After the meeting we paid the membership fee of $750 into a foreign bank account (we are UK based). For this we received an electronic contract and a further invoice for $35,200 to be paid into an American bank account within one week. I immediately went back with a questions, on the strength of one meeting we did not have sufficient facts to make a payment of this value in that timeframe. Communication was hard, slow and emails would come back with only some of the questions answered. To cut a long story short we arranged a meeting with the nurse (£350) to discuss health issues. In the initial meeting she said that some clinics have an age limit of 50, she would find out and let us know, but we might have to act quickly. Almost a month went by and after a chase up, the nurse emailed to say the clinic would be happy to treat us as long as it was before my 50th birthday. Then we were told we needed to meet ASAP. The clinic that would treat us required treatment to start by my 50th birthday which was 5 months on or by a specified time afterwards - that would give us say up to 7 months , well within the advertised time frame in the MSJ literature. It quickly became clear however in the subsequent meeting that MSJ would not be able to meet this timeline, a horror story of an egg donor being selected and then going away for a long-time was recounted. Anyway that was that. There we were having dropped everything quickly to meet, at work, let down by MSJ. I decided to complain: I set out that MSJ had not been able to meet it's own timescales, a month on we heard back from their complaints administrator who emailed to say her findings were...and then just listed our health conditions with a standard paragraph about this being disappointing. A side point here but the health issues had obviously been copied and pasted from another email, clearly we weren't even worth the effort of changing the font. I responded back and said I thought they should refund some of the payments made - after all they had failed to deliver to their timescales advertised and had failed to ask the correct questions in the first meeting - they are supposed to be the experts here, I also pointed out that our detailed health information should not have been shared with her - this is unlawful sharing of information - the complaints administrator did not need to know the details of our health conditions, just that we had some that had resulted in this outcome. In the second email entitled 'final response' and didn't recognise that data had been shared unlawfully (ICO reportable) and of course there was no refund. In the end we lost about £1,000 - clearly it could have been much worse financially, emotionally a different story. If you're reading this for due diligence there is also their accounts which can be viewed free on the companies house website. So that was our experience, I'm sure MSJ will follow up this review, but these are the facts.
